CAGBALETE

Mauban, Quezon, Philippines

Beach trips don’t have to be far––if you’re living in Manila and in need of a fix of sand and sun, a weekend road trip is enough to have you sorted. There are plenty of resorts and accommodations to choose from; no defined backpacker and tour companies involved!

If you’re on a tight budget but wanting a more private and less-crowded island getaway, Cagbalete Island might just be the paradise you’ve been looking for. Situated in a small town of Mauban, east of Quezon province, lies this secluded island with creamy white sand and clear waters. It is known for its low tide phenomenon exposing ripples of sand from the shoreline.

I’ve made arrangements to stay at Villa Noe Beach Resort. They have cottages for rent––ours at P3,300/night good for 6-8 pax. Electricity is only available from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. with use of generators. Cellular signals are reliable but 3G network connection is weak.

You'd completely outdone yourself by doing nothing in this place for days. Instead of spending so much on amenities and fancy drinks by the beach, you'll enjoy simple things like a splash in the ocean or star-gazing on a perfectly clear night.

The more we enjoy a combination of all these things, the easier it is to loosen our grip on all the stuff that fills our hectic calendars.
